our friends trailed behind until it was just us. me and you watching the fireworks, watching life be born into the darkness in dazzling golds and burning reds. [i kept stealing glimpses of your face.] and then we were rising into the night, becoming one with the stars and testing the limits of the tenseness of the air. we settled at the top and my breath stilled, but not at the beauty of the city that sprawls and reaches into the horizon with twinkles of glimmering and glittering warm light. no, the breath fell from my trembling lips because though the stars in the sky and painting the ground were beautiful, they were nothing compared to you.

you call me a superhero as a joke and you see that's the problem - it will always be a joke to me / you and never anything more than that because how can you bestow upon my shoulders the praise of a cape when i still cannot save others from the darkness in their minds all i can do is lie and save myself and cast the pain from my wounds to the people i once tried to save and i know i will always be the villain i will always be the one to hurt you and the one who mistakes blood as the glimmer of scarlet paint and recommends turpentine instead of a life-saving bandage i don't belong in this world of heroes no matter how hard i try to stitch the

giving off an aura of pumpkins and spice, with hints of glittering water and rosy petals i draw you in closer to my fading soul and, with a smile, i promise you life and beauty but instead i gift you with darkness - with the heavy feeling of all things coming to an inevitable end. [i promise you bright smiles and laughter but i force upon you the taste of salt and a tightness in your chest and throat.] i need to learn to give you galaxies and shooting stars with this darkness, even if just to grant you the wish of finally being free from my grasp.
